Chaparosa Ranch’s Practice Day 2/18

Saturday, February 18 Chaparosa held our first event. We started with a group session led by trainer, Drew Callahan. Drew did a brief introduction on how to approach and learn an Obstacle course and then we walked the entire course with Drew as he pointed out the intricacies of each gate and how to correctly drive it. Those who brought their equine partners harnessed up and some took individual lessons with Drew on the Cones course, in the dressage arena or in the Water and Bridge obstacles. Yes, the bridge was completed in time to be used so we had both obstacles to practice on. Those not signed up for individual lessons took turns on the Cones course, in the Dressage ring, the two permanent obstacles and took advantage of the local dirt roads (we handed out a map of a 5.5km route). It seems the day was a success as everybody said they had a great time and some of the auditors went home determined to find a driving partner. One has already been back to buy a carriage and start taking lessons.

The day went so well, we are offering another day on Saturday, March 3. Come practice the Water Obstacle, the Bridge Obstacle, Cones and/or Dressage……….whatever you want; a tune-up on the weekend before the Arizona CDE in Coolidge. Call or email Maureen with your entry……….$30 for the day.

Come join the fun and warm up for the driving competition season at Chaparosa Ranch on February 18, 2012.

Our water obstacle will be available and a cones course will be set. Drew Callahan will offer a short group driving lesson at 9 a.m. and will then be available for individual, half-hour lessons. Drivers are free to practice throughout the day at their convenience.

**This event is limited to 20 drivers. First come, first served. If this event fills, we will be offering a second chance event on March 3rd.**
